Galloway Spills!

Jon Tucker and Scott Cleverdon made the long journey to Castle Douglas in the south west of Scotland this weekend for the Galloway Hills Rally, which is the inaugural round of the Peugeot 206 Winter Cup.

This was Jon's first time in his newly acquired Peugeot 206, and his first time in the forests for over a year, so they made a steady start, which lost them some time to the leaders. After 2 stages they felt comfortable enough to push harder, and set a time just one second off the rally leader. They were very pleased with this as they both felt they could have pushed even harder. This is what they did on the 4th stage, in the hope of gaining some time back and getting into a top 3 position. All was going well and they were setting a blazing time, confirmed by mid stage timings, which would have put them right up there with the rally leaders.

Unfortunately, 200 yards before the finish of the stage, they pushed too hard on a 60mph corner, causing the car to hit a bank and spin down the stage. This damaged the front end of the car and the cooling system. They got to the end of the stage and collected a time, albeit with smoke pouring into the car. By repairing the car the best they could they were able to crawl through the last stage and back to the finish. They still managed an impressive 42nd overall from 120 cars, despite the time lost. This also gave them some points in the Peugeot 206 Winter cup, finishing 8th out of 14 cars.
